Born to Deaf parents, Joanne knows first hand the value of access to communication for her Deaf family and friends.  The agency was established by her to give choice to the Deaf community of Pittsburgh.  Joanne has interpreted professionally for 20 years, obtaining numerous RID certifications including the Special Skills Legal Certification (SC:L) in 2005. Joanne currently serves on the ASL/ITP Advisory Board for CCAC, is a Local Test Administrator (LTA) for RID and is a mentor to interpreters. Additionally, Joanne is an active member on a multitude of professional organizations such as the Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC), Volunteer Agencies Active in a Disaster (VOAD), the Allegheny County Mental Health Disaster and Response Recovery Meeting and serves on the ASTM F43.01 Subcommittee on Language Interpreting. In Joanne's work she is always looking for ways to integrate access to communication. She is a valued partner of the folks with whom she works and puts her heart and soul into everything she does.

Vice President of Operations: Danielle Filip MBA, NIC-Advanced

Danielle learned to sign as a child, but did not see a career in interpreting until later in life.  After graduating from Washington and Jefferson College with a BA in Business, Danielle aspired to work in the Public Sector as an ADA Coordinator, but later realized private sector was a better fit for her skills.  She then obtained her MBA in Leadership and Organizational Transformation from Chatham University.  During her coursework her peers focused on transformation as something more tangible, while Danielle saw transformation as being cultural.  It was at this time she realized working with the Deaf community was her passion.  She joined SLIP as an office assistant and then worked to become a certified interpreter.  Danielle now serves as VP of Operations, ensuring SLIP remains current in the marketplace.  She also works with businesses on cultural awareness, working with an interpreter and the integration of a diverse workforce.  Danielle is the District 2 Representative of PARID, a member of the ASTM F43.01 Subcommitte on Language Interpreting, an inquisitive mind, a change maker and a leader in the field of interpreting - in addition to being the eyes and ears of SLIP out in the field.
