SLIP's leadership is a dynamic mother daughter team. Spend a few minutes with these two and their passion becomes contagious. Joanne and Danielle work to keep the end user in mind at all times. Their dedication to the work they do is obvious!
Born to Deaf parents, Joanne knows first hand the value of access to communication for her Deaf family and friends. The agency was established by her to give choice to the Deaf community of Pittsburgh. Joanne has interpreted professionally for 20 years, obtaining numerous RID certifications including the Special Skills Legal Certification (SC:L) in 2005. Joanne currently serves on the ASL/ITP Advisory Board for CCAC, is a Local Test Administrator (LTA) for RID and is a mentor to interpreters. Additionally, Joanne is an active member on a multitude of professional organizations such as the Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC), Volunteer Agencies Active in a Disaster (VOAD), the Allegheny County Mental Health Disaster and Response Recovery Meeting and serves on the ASTM F43.01 Subcommittee on Language Interpreting. In Joanne's work she is always looking for ways to integrate access to communication. She is a valued partner of the folks with whom she works and puts her heart and soul into everything she does.
